  • Sea stars, brittle stars, sea urchins, sand dollars and sea cucumbers are all echinoderms (ih KI nuh durmz). Echinoderms are spiny-skinned invertebrates that live on the ocean bottom.
Did You Know That?
Scientists discourage using the phrase "star fish." Why? Because sea stars don't have backbones. And, if they don't have backbones, they aren't related to fish! Instead, make sure you call them "sea stars."
